For many players, beating the main story in fnaf 2 is only the beginning. Once the credits roll, Custom Night unlocks and introduces a completely new level of challenge. Unlike the standard game, Custom Night allows players to control the AI difficulty of each animatronic, creating unique scenarios that range from beginner-friendly practice sessions to some of the toughest challenges in the entire Five Nights at Freddy’s series. Choosing the right character settings can make a huge difference in both your learning curve and your chances of survival.

One of the reasons FNAF 2's Custom Night remains so popular is its flexibility. Players can focus on specific mechanics, practice against individual animatronics, or attempt legendary challenge modes like 10/20 Mode. However, not every setup is equally effective. Some settings are ideal for learning the game's core mechanics, while others are designed to push experienced players to their limits. Understanding which character combinations work best can help you improve faster and enjoy the mode more.

For beginners, the best approach is to keep most animatronics at low difficulty levels while learning the fundamentals. A balanced setup might include Toy Freddy, Toy Bonnie, Toy Chica, Withered Freddy, Withered Bonnie, Withered Chica, Foxy, and the Puppet set between AI levels 3 and 5. Balloon Boy, Mangle, and Golden Freddy can remain at level 0 until you become more comfortable managing multiple threats. This configuration allows players to practice key mechanics such as using the Freddy mask, checking vents, flashing the hallway, and winding the Music Box without becoming overwhelmed. Since the Puppet is one of the most important threats in the game, even beginners should spend time learning how to maintain the Music Box efficiently.
